The Old Guard is a superhero film released earlier this year and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. This film is a great success. The film is based on a comic of the same name written by Greg Rucka. Although Greg has also written the screenplay of this film, there are various changes in the story of the film.

In this film, Chiwetel Ejiofor portrays the character of a former CIA agent James Copley. According to the comic and film, at first, he pretends to be Andy’s friend but later, it is revealed that Copley works for Merrick, a villain in this film. But, after some realizations, he betrays Merrick. However, in both the film and the comic, the immortals spare him. Copley does more good things than bad to honor the memory of his wife.

The Dream

In the film The Old Guard, an enemy soldier traps the former U.S. Marine Nile Freeman and cuts his throat. However, she recovers in a very few seconds as expected. She has a dream after she wakes up, which makes the other immortals aware of her existence. To grab her before the military, Andy tracks her location so that he can save her. In the comics also, Andy tracks her and saves her. In this way, the movie has kept the same story from the comics.

The Fight Scenes

The fight scenes look better on big screens instead of comics because of wonderful choreography. One of the most memorable fight scenes from The Old Guard is between Nile and Andy when they fight in a plane. In the comics, they get killed in the battle, and the movie also similarly depicts their death scene. Although the comic tries this scene to look more realistic, it looks more stunning in the movie.

Ripple Effect

In the film, The Old Guard, Copley discovers that whenever the immortal’s group uses their powers for some good cause, a more significant ripple effect appears in the rest of the world. It happens in the same way as written in the comics. According to the information, this scene was introduced in the movie in the final stages of the screenplay.

Booker’s Betrayal

In the final stages of the movie, Andy and Booker meet Copley. After this, Booker wounds Andy and betrays her. According to Booker, Andy is immortal at this time because he is not aware that she has lost her immortality. However, he regrets this act later but gets expelled from the group for betraying Andy. This scene has been depicted in the comics as well and in a similar way.

The First Look of The Conjuring 3

The team of The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It recently released a new video regarding new details about the plot.

The Conjuring Universe is an American supernatural horror franchise created by James Wan. The first film in the franchise titled The Conjuring was released in 2013. The movie was based on a couple of paranormal investigators, Lorraine Warren and Edward Warren. The film’s plot follows the investigators’ attempts to help those possessed by demonic spirits.

The franchise is commercially successful and earned $1.9 billion against a budget of $139.5 million. The franchise became the second highest-grossing franchise after Godzilla. The upcoming movie The Conjuring 3 is the third installment of the franchise, while the first released in 2013 titled, The Conjuring, and the second in 2016 titled, The Conjuring 2.

The first two films were directed by James Wan, co-written by Carey W. Hayes and Chad Hayes. The story revolves around the two professional paranormal investigators known as Warrens. They help the Perron family in the first movie, experiencing ghostly activities in their new house in Rhode Island. The second plot of the film focused on the controversial Enfield poltergeist that inspired The Amityville Horror.

The team is all set to release the 2016 film’s sequel, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Michael Chaves is the director of the film, previously he is known for his project The Curse of La Llorona. The production of the film “Devil Made Me Do It” started on 3 June 2019. The film was supposed to release on 11 September 2020, but due to the coronavirus, the team pushed the release date to 4 June 2021.

Warner Bros. has raised the bars for the horror movies genre. The team has released new footage of the upcoming film and the plot breakdown that takes the film’s focus on Arne Johnson. Movie’s star Patrick Wilson writes that The Conjuring: Devil Made Me Do It reveals a horror story of unknown terror, evil, and murder that shocked the real-life paranormal investigators Lorraine Warren and Edward Warren.

What is Parasite About?

Parasite is a mixed genre of dark comedy, psychological thriller, and class satire. The movie follows two families on two extremities of the class-based society. The low-income family, the Kims, infiltrates into the wealthy family’s lives, the Parks, as highly skilled individual employees. Kim Kii-woo gives tuition classes to the Park’s daughter Da-hye and then helps his sister get employed as an art tutor for Da-hye’s brother, Da-song. The Kim children then plan to defame the Park’s driver and bring their father for the job. And lastly, they trick the housekeeper into replacing her with their mother, Moon-gwang. Everything is going smooth until the Kims find that Moon-gwang has been hiding her husband in the Park’s basement.

The film’s representation of the city depicts the class system and how the lower middle class is fighting a battle against each other every day to be in a better place. The poor man smell from Geun-se tells that, irrespective of the clothes, every man has a smell of where it belongs, and one can not mask it.

Parasite took an ugly turn when the lives of the upper class and lower class clashed. Park’s son’s birthday party turns into grief, and Geun-se escapes after killing Dong-ik. Later Geun-se starts living in the Park’s basement to run from the police. He tries to connect with his son through Morse code signals.

Income inequality is everywhere these days, and Parasite is a movie that is more pessimistic about economic mobility. It highlights the fact that those who are born poor will die poor. The Kims may get rich in the future and buy the house to free his father, but that will not happen. The film tells us we all are trapped where we are.

Riddick Sequel is Finally Picking Up Pace

It was looking like the fourth installment in the Vin Diesel starrer Riddick franchise had plunged into the darkness of uncertainty, and even the reports of it finally going into the productions in the year 2020 turned out to be nothing more than a false dream.

The project, now titled “Riddick: Furya,” was reported to be still in the scripting stage in the peak pandemic months. Then a report came out that suggested that the script is nearing completion; however, due to the pandemic, any plans to begin shooting this year seems like a distant plausibility. Many voices on social media have also suggested that the creators’ wish to increase the popularity of Riddick might also be the reason that the film production is on halt right now.

However, there is a faint whisper arousing from somewhere that the development of Riddick: Furya is now moving forward with pace. Vin Diesel had confirmed in May that the Riddick 4: Furya is going into the productions soon.

According to a trusted source, Riddick 4 production team will apparently hit the grounds running, but the major details about the film are still under wraps. The studio, which is overseeing the development of Riddick, is Universal, which is also producing the next Fast & Furious film, so to keep its hero Vin Diesel happy, I reckon Universal will speed things up. The source has also confirmed that Karl Urban will return to reprise his antagonist role of Vaako, which he had nailed in 2013.

The saga of Riddick had started from the year 2000 when the film “Pitch Black” was released. The underwhelming film was then turned into a full-scale blockbuster with the 2004 film “Chronicles of Riddick.” The 2013 film Riddick brought back Vin Diesel to play the titular role again. A lot of other related products are there in the market that tells us that there is an audience that loves the character and the world he resides in.

If you are familiar with the Riddick universe, you would know that the fourth film of the Riddick franchise will take the hero back to his home soil. However, the plot details and the structure of the story are unknown for the time being.

Kristen Schaal, Dave Bautista, Chloe Coleman, Ken Jeong, and Parisa Fitz-Henley were the cast of the movie My Spy. Although since it was a family movie, it did not get a positive response from the audience and critics. It received an approval rating of 47% based on 118 reviews on rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 5.3/10.

Agent Cody Banks is a spy comedy movie directed by Harald Zwart. The plot follows a 15-year-old title character played by the actor Frankie Muniz. Muniz is known for his TV show Malcolm in the Middle, Agent Cody Banks, Big Fat Liar, and Racing Stripes. He was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and one Emmy Award nomination. Along with Muniz, Keith David, Angie Harmon, Ian McShane, Hilary Duff, Cynthia Stevenson, and many more actors for other supporting characters.

However, the movie is not much about the mission rather about the inability to speak with girls. Throughout the film, Cody is helped by CIA experts to do his homework, teach him how to debonair with the girls, and complete his chores.

Agent Cody Banks got mixed reviews and an approval rating of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. On 12 March 2004 the sequel of the film was released titled, Agent Cody Banks:2.

Spy Hard

Spy Hard is an American spy comedy movie starring Nicollette Sheridan, Leslie Nielsen. It was produced by Jeffrey Konvitz and Doug Draizin and directed by Rick Friedberg.

The plot of the story revolves around the Secret agent WD-40 Dick Steele played by Leslie Nielsen. Along with the lovely and mysterious Veronique Ukrinsky, Agent 3.14 played by Nicollette Sheridan. Secret agent WD-40 must rescue Barbara Dahl, who is kidnapped and he wants to stop the evil genius, Rancor played by Andy Griffith.

Leslie Nielsen is a Canadian comedian, actor, and producer. He is known for his notable performances in The Poseidon Adventure, Forbidden Planet, Airplane, TV show Police Squad, etc. and his character’s goal in the movie was to save the world from Rancor. However, the movie did not get a positive response from the audience and critics. The film earned an approval rating of 8% based on 40 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Spies In Disguise

Spies in Disguise is an American computer-animated spy comedy movie produced by Blue Sky Studios. The voice to the film was given by some amazing actors including Tom Holland, Will Smith, Ben Mendelson, Reba McEntire, Karen Gillan, Masi Oka, DJ Khaled, and Rashida Jones.

The screenplay of the plot follows the secret agent who is transformed into a pigeon by a young scientist named Holland. The two then worked together to stop a cybernetic terrorist, and return to his human form.

Spies in Disguise premiered on 4 December 2019 at the El Capitan Theatre and collected a gross of $171 million worldwide and received positive reviews from critics with praise for music, humor, animation, and vocal performances.

The computer animation movie is a family-friendly story about a teen and voiced by Holland. Along with the release of Spies in Disguise during Christmas, Rise of Skywalker and Little Women also released at the same time, and hence it had to suffer a bit at the box office. The fans can find its DVD and the movie is also available on streaming platforms now.

Monster Slaying Manga from Shonen Jump That You Should Try

Since Monster-slaying seems to be in fashion, we had a look at some of the most praised and loved Manga in the genre that you should checkout. The list contains stories that have been running for decades to reasonably new ones that challenge even the well-established ones.

Our Blood Oath 

Our Blood Oath is one of the reasonably new titles on Shonen Jump. It is based on Red pledge and follows the story of two siblings. Shin and Ko are no ordinary siblings since Ko is a vampire while Shin is a human. Even though they have a bloodline full of vampires, the brothers choose to fight the blood-sucking monsters to protect innocent people.

The series has evolved some great vampire designs that are previously unseen. They have shown the courage to move past generic humanoid designs as the animalistic monster vampires do set the series apart from others in its genre. Although it is ranked relatively low, it would be unfair to judge it from its ranking only since the series is relatively new, and very little of it is out as of now. But the Manga, with its unique plot, does seem very promising, and it would be intriguing to see how it builds upon its promising start. 

 Hell Warden Higuma

Hell Warden Higuma, as its name suggests, focuses on the life of Higuma, who is a Hell Warden. Started alongside Chainsaw Man in 2018, the protagonist of the Manga is given the responsibility to find evil demons that have possessed innocent humans. He has to exorcise the human to send the demons back to hell. Higuma has an army of hands at his disposal to help him with his job. 

A human possessed by a demon will probably not know, but the signs are there. The human will tend to undergo a significant personality shift, which often transpires as the possessed picks up destructive and sinister traits. The aim of the demons is to absorb the lifespan of its victims to sustain itself. Hell Warden Higuma gives a lot of time to Higuma and his history; by doing this, it presents a very close look at the effects of monster hunting on an individual. It also shows what type of person would choose to sign up from such a job. 

 Burn the Witch

The Manga Bleach created by Titu Kubo needs no introduction. It quickly grew popularity after its release and got an anime adaptation as well. Burn the Witch is set in the same world as Bleach and focuses on the deuteragonist Noel Niihasi and Ninny Spangcole. Both of them are witches who spend most of their time-fighting dragons who are taking over the city. 

Burn the Witch in 2018, was published as a one-shot, but it had to be serialized this year because of its growing popularity. If you are not familiar with the world of Bleach, you won’t be able to resonate with this series. But, if you are someone aware of the Bleach world, then Burn the Witch is probably the Manga you are looking for.

 Jujutsu Kaisen 

Jujutsu Kaisen is the story of a high school student named Yūji Itadori. He joins an Occult Research Club in his school only with the motive that he will have enough time to meet his grandfather, who is in the hospital. The Occult Club accidentally finds a talisman that holds a very dangerous curse. After the club accidentally unleashes the curse, many other evil curses descend on the school since the powerful talisman curse can give anyone the power to destroy the world.

To protect the people he loves, Yūji consumes the rotting finger talisman himself and becomes the host of the curse. He is then introduced to the world of shamans who are doing their bit to protect the world from falling into chaos. The school’s superiors finally had to decide to sentence Yūji to death, but before he is killed, he has to consume all the cursed rotten fingers so that both can be destroyed simultaneously.  

Jujutsu Kaisen is a unique monster-slaying manga that is hard to replace. Even though you might not be a fan of the genre, Jujutsu Kaisen has the potential to make you a fan.

Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man has been running on Shonen Jump since 2018 and has been a massive hit of 2020. It is set in a world where devils regularly attack humans, so hunting devils obviously becomes a lucrative career choice. But there are also humans who make pacts with devils for materialistic gains.

Denji, the protagonist, is an unfortunate young man who is struggling to pay off his father’s debt to the yakuza. He earns money by selling his organs, hunting devils, and working as a lumberjack. His dog Pochita is a devil who can turn itself into a chainsaw, which proves very useful for Denji in his lumberjacking. The yakuza are aware that they can make Denji do whatever they want, so they send him to fight a zombie devil. But it turns out that the yakuza had made a pact with the devil and wanted to use Denji as a sacrifice. When the devil kills Denji, his dog Pochita fuses with him giving him all his powers and a new life. Denji, with Pochita’s power, quickly destroys the zombie devil; when a team of government devil hunters arrives, they offer him to join them, which kicks off his journey as a Public Safety Devil Hunter.

Chainsaw Man is often compared with Deadpool because of the violence and brutality that it portrays. But the series is able to stand out on its own because of its unique and well-written characters. The show deserves to be a sleeper hit, and if there is one series that you should go for from Shonen Jump, then it must be Chainsaw Man.

Tenet Collected $300M At Box Office

The collection record of the most expensive Christopher Nolan movie, Tenet has come. According to the box office the film has collected around $300 million worldwide. In today’s Hollywood, where the box office is filled with remakes, reboots, and sequels, Nolan has proved and is proving that original content can perform well as well. Some of his great previous movies including Interstellar, Inception, and Dunkirk made a box office collection of over $500 million, and his latest movie Tenet is also doing a similar business.

However, the budget of the movie was high, and the team was executing a better collection than that. But due to the global pandemic coronavirus, the performance of the film dramatically altered. The release date of the film was delayed multiple times and was released in late August. Tenet did a reasonable version internationally, although the domestic box office is a little disappointing as the theatres of Los Angeles and New York are still closed.

The idea was conceived by Nolan a decade ago, and he worked on the screenplay for five years. The pre-production started in late 2018. The plot of the movie revolves around a CIA agent, who is the “Protagonist” of the film, participates in an undercover operation at an opera house. While rescuing an exposed spy, the Russian mercenaries capture the Protagonist. They torture him and then force him to consume a cyanide pill. He wakes up and learns that the pill was a test of his loyalty. The Protagonist is then hired for the secret service named Tenet. The organization appoints him to save the human race and to do that they have a technology that can invert the entropy, which results in moving backward through time. And the screenplay then carries on from there.

According to the latest box office records shared by Warner Bros., Tenet collected $19.2M in the past weekend globally. The international box office brings a total of $242M, while it only collected $41.2M in the domestic box office. The total collection of the movie thoroughly becomes $283.2M. However, Tenet is very close to crossing $300M worldwide butter the producer will lose a considerable amount. The film requires at least $500M to break even the production cost. The team initially claimed that it needed to collect $800M to make a reasonable profit, which seems impossible according to the box office collection rate.

The captors of Gwynplaine considered him disloyal and left him in the snow. There, he rescued a blind girl and earned money for them by joining an insane show. He performed as the “Laughing Man” in that show. After several years, he became the star performer of the show and fell into the love of a current adult blind woman, Dea. However, Gwynplaine knew that she does not want to be with a freak like him, so he always tried to make a difference between them.

After a few more days, The Laughing Man became more popular, the owner of his estate, Duchess Josiana, who was a dark seductress, became attracted to the scary appearance of Gwynplaine. He was illegally forced by Queen Anne to marry Josiana. Gwynplaine did not want to marry her as he was in love with Dea, so he renounced his name and escaped from there. However, according to the novel, both Gwynplaine and Dea died, but before dying, they admitted their feelings for each other.

The permanent looks of Gwynplaine were very similar to that of a Joker. He has dark eyes, a wide smile, and an identical hairstyle as that of a Joker. He was the perfect match for the designs created by Bob Kane for the appearance of Joker. The Harlin’s version was titled as Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist and was released on 20th May 2005. And now 20th Century Fox Television is all set to release a reboot series after fifteen years in 2021. William Friedkin directs the Exorcist reboot.

William Friedkin is an American TV and film producer, director, and screenwriter. He started his career with documentaries in the 1960s. William is one of the best directors for filming thrillers and supernatural movies. He created The French Connection in 1971, The Exorcist in 1973, The Boys in the Band in 1970, Sorcerer in 1977, psychological horror film named bug in 2006, dark comedy Killer Joe in 2011, and many more.

Friedkin moved to Hollywood, and after two years he released his first feature film titled Good Times starring Cher and Sonny. Then he made The Birthday Party, which was based on an unpublished screenplay by Harold Pinter. Friedkin directed The Exorcist in 1973, which was the adaptation of the best selling novel. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won two of them including Best Sound Mixing and Best Adapted Screenplay. It was the highest-grossing R-rated supernatural horror film until the movie It in 2017.
