PS5 storage can’t go beyond 667GB? Currently, no way to expand PS5’s storage

PS5 storage can’t go beyond 667GB? Currently, no way to expand PS5’s storage

Recently, we got to know that you may not be able to upgrade your PS5 storage using an external SSD. Sony has recently verified that its latest gaming console doesn’t have an option to connect traditional SSDs. They further told that users would have to manage with only 667 GB of storage for a short period. The company plans to launch a dedicated SSD for its upcoming gaming console, but it will take a little time.

In short, this means you will get limited storage space on your PS5, which might be a severe setback for some users. Many users were dreaming of connecting their old SSD to their upcoming console. Now, this shocking news regarding the incapability of connecting to any traditional SSD may fright them. If you were also expecting PS5 to be compatible with your old SSDs, you might have even felt disappointed.

Whatever, as Sony proclaimed, we may soon get access to the optimized SSD for PS5 gaming consoles.

Why didn’t Sony make PS5 compatible with standard SSDs?

It’s a big question, and many of you might have imagined why they did this? If they let their users connect PS5 consoles to their old SSDs, then most PS4 users will utilize their existing SSD is with it as well. Most people would have been using their old accessories instead of buying a new one from Sony.

However, by manufacturing the new consoles to not let users connect to old SSDs, the company can generate massive revenue by selling their own SSDs. It is kind of forcing all customers to buy new accessories only from them.

We would recommend you wait for a few days even after Sony releases its PS5 SSD. Within a couple of days after the launch of PS5 SSD, other popular SSD manufacturers will manufacture and sell the same stuff at a lower price.

The reason we have told you is just an opinion, and there might be other technical reasons for Sony not providing PS5 with SSD compatibility.

Whatever, 667GB should be more than enough for you if you are an average gamer. Bear in mind that some low-cost variants of PS5 come with even less internal storage. So you have to make your mind first before making a final purchase.

Despite this all, this new-gen gaming console still packs more processing power and exciting features than your PS4. We may soon get updated about the PS5 SSD news in the upcoming days. That is all we wanted to share with you, and we hope you have found it informative. Thank you for visiting this site.

PS5 Game Sizes Get Revealed and You Might Need External Storage

PS5 Game Sizes Get Revealed and You Might Need External Storage

The PS5 game sizes have been revealed, and yes, they do have the tendency to chew through SSD storage at a superfast speed. The 825GB SSD storage of the PS5 might be blazing fast, but it will most probably fill up with some installs of the games that are coming soon.

Till now there are not many of the install sizes announced for the upcoming games, but the ones that have been announced include:

The Demon’s Souls remake will have an install size of over 66GB.

The Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition, would have an install size of 105GB. Even, if you install only Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it would be consuming over 50GB of your PS5’s SSD space.

The console games are getting more significant year after year and so have the storage for games consoles. The storage on the gaming consoles have increased too, as the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro comes with 1TB of storage.

But, even if the PS5 comes with a superfast SSD, it has less storage compared to that of the PS4 Pro. And it looks like with the large game install size; players will not be installing the large game libraries on PS5 consoles until Sony comes out with some sort of data compression techniques.

So, the PS5 storage will have an off-the-shell expandable SSD storage. But these should be PCIe 4.0 SSDs, and Sony certified. However, none of them is available right now. Like the expandable storage for Xbox Series X, the PS5 expandable SSD storages would be costing a good amount.

Storage Consumption

The installation of Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition would be taking over 13 percent of the SSD storage of the PS5. If more games would be consuming this much storage, then this will be bad news for the PS5 SSD storage. Like the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 comes with a massive install size, alongside many other games.

However, this would be a very minimal problem if you have a robust broadband connection for downloading massive games and that too in an expected amount of time. But if your connection is slower, then you will require a significant amount of time and patience for playing the next-generation games.

Compared to the PS5, the Xbox Series X would be coming with a 1TB SSD, but it will also get filled up quickly if the games come up with large install sizes.

However, what is the situation of these next-generation gaming consoles, would more effectively be figured out when they launch in November.

The Xbox Series X is all set to launch worldwide on November 10; however, the PS5 would be launching in the US and other regions on November 12, while the countries like U.K., Europe, and others will have to wait till November 19. Pre-orders are currently live for PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S, but their stocks are selling out at lightning speed. So, if you want to order any one of them, then don’t think for the second time, just order it quickly while they are in stock. Otherwise, you will have to wait for them to arrive again.
