Windows 10 devices come with an inbuilt antivirus solution named Windows Defender. It is a basic antivirus tool that can be used for safeguarding the device from threats. However, sometimes users face issues while using it. “An unexpected problem occurred” error message may pop up when you try to update Windows Defender. In case you are facing this issue, then read on and learn how to fix it.


Clean Boot Your PC

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + R hotkey and type “msconfig” in the search option.
  2. In the System Configuration window, select “Service tab” and click on “Hide all Microsoft services.”
  3. Now select the “Disable all” option.
  4. After that, click on the “Startup” button and then select “Open Task Manager.”
  5. When the task manager appears on your screen, you can see the startup applications list.
  6. Right-tap on the first result and select “Disable” from the dropdown menu. Now you need to repeat the above steps for all of the apps  in the list.
  7. Finally, you need to close “Task Manager” and select the “System Configuration” option. Select “Apply” and hit “OK.”

Check System Files

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + X buttons and select commands prompt. You can also use PowerShell.
  2. In the search field type “sfc/scannow” and press the “Enter” button on your keyboard or wait until the scan is finished.

If the SFC scan does not fix this issue, then you need to use DISM to fix this issue.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Launch the Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. In the command-line, you need to enter given command and then tap the “Enter” button on your keyboard to run it:
    • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. After the above process, DSIM will start the scan. Remember that it can take approx 30 minutes.

Restart Security Center Service

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + R button to open the Run command prompt.
  2. In the Run search bar, type “service.msc” and tap “Enter.”
  3. Search the “Security” button under the service tab.
  4. Right-click on the security center and click on “Restart.”

Change in Registry

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + R button to open the Run command prompt and enter “regedit” in the search field.
  2. In the Registry editor you need to navigate to the given command:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsof\tWindows Defender
  3. Double-tap on the “DisableAntiSpyware” DWORD.
  4. Here you need to set the value 0 and tap “OK” to save your changes.

Windows Defender is a robust and useful program. However, sometimes errors concerning Windows Defender may pop up. Hopefully, the above-mentioned solutions will come in handy when you face the “unexpected problem has occurred” error.

ODT is a file format of LibreOffice Writer and OpenOffice documents. When the ODT documents are corrupted, then an error code appears on your screen and says, “ODT is corrupt and therefore cannot open.”  In this article, we will show you how you can fix this issue.


Ways to Recover and Fix Corrupted ODT Files

Check for Backup Copy

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Open File Explorer on your device.
  2. If you are LibreOffice user then you need to open the backup copy at the given path:
  3. C:Usersxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\ 4userbackup
  4. If you are OpenOffice user then you need to open the given path in the file explorer:
  5. C:Usersxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4userbackup
  6. This folder may include a .bak file of the corrupted document. Click open to match the title.
  7. If the backup file folder is empty, then you need to ensure to add an ODT backup for next time when you need it. To do so, launch the Writer and then click “Tools” and select “Options.”
  8. Double-tap on the “Save or load” to enable the category of features.
  9. Now tap on “General” to launch the settings on your screen.
  10. Click the “Always create a backup copy” button.
  11. Additionally, you need to select the “Automatically save the document too” option.
  12. Select the “OK” button; now, you can copy Writer files when you cannot open ODT original files.

Update OpenOffice or LibreOffice

To update your OpenOffice or LibreOffice, you need to follow the steps given below:

  1. Tap on the “Help” icon and then select “Check for updates.”
  2. After the above process, available updates will appear on your screen.
  3. Now you need to tap on the “Download” button.

Insert Corrupted Files In Blank Documents

One of the easy tricks for opening corrupt ODT files is to launch them in Writer. Well, the Writer comes with an Insert option that allows users to insert files in blank documents.

You just need to launch any blank document and then click “Insert” select “File.” After that,  insert the corrupt ODT files.

Fixing ODT Documents with OpenOffice Writer Document

For fixing this issue first, you need to use the utility of Repair OpenOffice Writer Document. Follow the steps given below to recover your corrupted file.

  1. Open the Writer app.
  2. Tap the “choose” option to pick an ODT document.
  3. Tap on “Secure Upload and Repair” for fixing this issue.
