How to Set Up Android TV

Buying an Android TV is easy and so should be its set up. If you were having any doubts about the setup procedure, you have landed on the right page. We have broken down this guide into four segments to make it easy for you to understand. We will talk about what all you will be needing before the setup, then you will come across detailed instructions for the setup procedure. Towards the end of this guide, we have also mentioned a list of apps you might want to download to get the most out of your Android TV. So here we go!

Android TV: Pre-setup requirements

Before getting into the actual setup, the following are a few things that you will require during the process.

  • A Wi-Fi internet connection
  • A Google Account

In case your TV doesn’t have built-in Android, then you will also need:

  • An external Android TV device
  • One HDMI cable
  • A TV or a monitor with HDMI ports and supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)

Once you have collected all the essentials stated above, you can start setting up your new Android TV. There are three ways to do that: using your Android phone, using your Android TV remote, or using your computer.

Initial Setup

Turn on Your Android TV and Pair the Remote

First of all, you need to pair the remote with your Android TV. Ideally, you can turn on/off your device using an IR connection without any Bluetooth connection. However, it will be required for every other feature. Below are the steps to pair your Android TV with its remote.

Step 1. Turn on your Android TV.

Step 2. Follow the prompts to pair your remote.

Step 3. The moment your remote connects to the TV, you will see a checkmark on the screen.

After pairing your remote, you will be prompted to set up your Android TV using your Android phone or tablet. Otherwise, you can also use the remote or your computer to complete the setup procedure. Below are the detailed instructions to set up your Android TV using all the three different devices.

After your system updates, it is also very important to check for any app updates before you start using your Android TV. Before you start using the pre-installed streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and others on your Android TV, check for their updates in the Google Play Store on your Android TV. You will find the Play Store in the top row of your Android TV homepage. Once there, go to the My Apps section and click on Update All.
