Game of Thrones: 5 Ways Cersei Is Different From the Books to the Show

Game of Thrones: 5 Ways Cersei Is Different From the Books to the Show

Game of Thrones is one of the most famous American television series so far. It has gained a lot of fame from its all the eight seasons so far. From the first season of Game of Thrones, Cersei Lannister was one of the most exciting characters. She has played a vital role in this television series as an excellent villain. However, Cersei Lannister differs from the books in some ways in Game of Thrones.

Here are the five ways in which Cersei is different from the books to the show.

Her First Child

In the series, it was said several times that the only good quality of Cersei was to her children. It can be proved by the instance when Cersei gave her condolences with Catelyn Stark. At that time, Bran was in a coma. She told Catelyn about her firstborn son. His name was Robert Baratheon, and unfortunately, he died as an infant. This was not featured in the books and was an additional content to the story of Game of Thrones to show Cersei a kind-hearted and tragic person who felt sorry about Bran.

Sympathetic

According to Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin has played many times with the fan’s expectations of characters. For example, the character like Jaime Lannister and Theon Greyjoy was initially hated by the fans but at the end became favorite. On the other hand, the character of Cersei Lannister was shown to be sympathetic at some point in time. However, according to the books, Cersei was a pretty much evil person. Her nature was sadistic and always revolved around murders even from her young age. Her sympathetic nature was not depicted in any of the books.

Her Affairs

Robert and Cersei both were not faithful in their marriage to one another. Robert was handling his affairs quite openly. On the other hand, Cersei was secretive for some reason and did not reveal openly. In the first episode, we came to know that she was having an affair with her brother Jaime Lannister. Later, she was also shown to be sleeping with her cousin Lancel. However, these two relationships are true in the books also, but the relationship which was not depicted in the books was with some soldiers. She slept with some soldiers to get revenge only for the affairs, and that became responsible for Cersei’s arrest.

Unhinged

Cersei is a great strategy-expert and an excellent manipulator, as shown in the series. When she took over the Iron Throne, she was shown to be a more powerful and skilled leader as compared to Tywin Lannister. However, according to the books, Cersei wanted to become like Tywin, but she was not successful in that. In the books, she was a destructive and much evil person. Later, as the book expanded, she was shown to be more unstable with the expanding books.

The Valonqar Prophecy

At the beginning of season 5 of Game of Thrones, Cersei was shown as a young girl in flashback. She visited a witch who told her about her future. According to the predictions of that witch, Cersei would be queen, Robert would have many bastards, and the children of Cersei would die. However, this prophecy was included in the books as well, but one of the vital parts of the book was missing. The witch told Cersei that she was going to be killed by “The Valonqar” which is Valyrian for little brother. Most probably, this was the reason for Cersei to hate Tyrion. After exploring the differences between the original show and the books of the Game of Thrones, we have concluded that even though some instances have been added in the show but to resolve all the things properly, the addition of the story was well deserving.

The Witcher: Shows To Watch When You’re Done Binging Season 1

The Witcher might not be one of the most anticipated Netflix series. However, when the show finally streamed on Netflix, the viewers universally enjoyed the show, becoming very popular. The Witcher is a Polish-American fantasy drama TV series which is produced by Laure Schmidt Hissrich. The series is based on the novel of the same name written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The plot is based on a fictional landmass known as “the Continent” and explores Geralt of Rivia and princess Ciri. The series stars Freya Allan, Henry Cavill, and Anya Chalotra. The first season released on 20 December 2019 on Netflix, consists of eight episodes. The series is based on Sword of Destiny and The Last Wish. The team announced the second season of eight episodes is scheduled to release in 2021. So there would not be any more Witcher for a long time. Here is the list of some famous shows that you might like if you enjoyed the Witcher.

Game Of Thrones

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama TV show created by D.B. Weiss and David Benioff for HBO. The show is an adaptation of the book A Song of Ice and Fire. The first season of Game of Thrones was aired on 17 April 2011. The series’s filming took place in different places, including Canada, Iceland, Croatia, Malta, Morocco, and Spain. And the show concluded on 19 May 2019. The plot is set on a fictional continent of Westeros and Essos. The story focuses on many plots; one is about the Seven Kingdoms and Iron Thrones, which follows the conflict between noble dynasties. Another focus on the Night’s Watch is a brotherhood defending the realm against legendary creatures of the North and many more. Audiences, as well as critics, widely accepted the series. The critics praised the show for its complex characters, scope, story, acting, and production value. However, the violence and use of nudity are being criticized. The series received many awards, including 58 Primetime Emmy Awards, Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. And nominations of three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation, five Golden Globe Award for Best TV Series Drama, and a Peabody Award.

However, the last season of the show was comparatively not up to the audience’s expectations. Suppose you ignore that, it is one of the coolest shows ever. So if you haven’t yet watched GoT, then try it out; you will love HBO’s series.

Into The Badlands

Into the Badlands is an American TV series which premiered on 15 November 2015 on AMC. The series’s plot follows a young boy and a warrior who journey through a dangerous land to seek enlightenment. The series is based on 500 years after an apocalyptic, which ruined human civilization. The story is set in a territory known as Badlands, located between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains. Barons control monopolies and land over commodities like fuel and opium. The Barons are served by a group of slaves called cogs and a prostitute class called dolls. The series is described as a “genre-bending martial arts series.” The Executive producer of the show, Stephen King, was also the action-director of the project. The series is filmed in Louisiana, Dublin, Ireland, County Wicklow.

The fantastic action sequences of the series are very engaging and grip the audiences from start to finish. Much like The Witcher, consistent action and upbeat are positive aspects of both the shows. While waiting for the second season of The Witcher 2, why don’t you explore Into The Badlands’ three seasons?

Vikings

Vikings is a historical drama TV series written and created by Michael Hirst for the History channel. Most of the series is filmed in Ireland. On 4 January 2019, the sixth season will be the final season and premiered on 4 December 2019. However, the sex scenes and nudity was censored and edited out for United States audiences. In the fourth season, “The Outsider” only showed they kissed. The show has a lot of fantasy elements, and the characters are inspired by Scandinavian mythology.

The Tudors

The show was nominated for eight Irish Film and Television Awards and won seven of them, including acting awards for Jonathan Rhys as Lead Actor, Nick Dunning as Supporting Actor, and Maria Doyle Kennedy as Supporting Actress; craftwork for Costume Design; Production and Hair/Makeup; and many more. The series also won 59th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award For Outstanding Music Title Theme Music and Outstanding Costumes.

The Witcher star Henry Cavill is the main character of the series. And Cavill has the same brilliant performance and charisma as Charles’ character. So if you are a fan of Cavill, there is one more reason to watch the show.

Merlin

Merlin is a British fantasy drama TV series starring Colin Morgan as James and Bradley James as Prince Arthur. The show was broadcast on 20 September 20018 to 24 December 2012 on BBC One. It was a season of 65 episodes. However, Melinis is not as violent as The Witcher, but it has a fantastic screenplay. The series is all about magical and mythical elements, with characters having powers that make the show engaging—the show aimed at a broader age group of audiences with younger viewers. The actors’ performances and brilliant storytelling make the show perfect for any fans of The Witcher.

The Last Kingdom

The Witcher was a fantasy story, and The Last Kingdom has a visually similar setting. It is a story of endless conflict between the Danes and the Anglo-Saxons, set during the 1800s in the United Kingdom. The Last  Kingdom follows the story of Wessex, which is a titular last kingdom. The Witcher has made a recognizable mark in audiences’ hearts, and The Last Kingdom shares a similar situation.

Winds Of Winter Could Give A Game of Thrones Hero Their Due

Winds Of Winter Could Give A Game of Thrones Hero Their Due

Did you watch the Game of Thrones series? The ending was miserable, right! We all expected a better final season, but the show somehow failed to stand out. Well, writer George R.R. Martin is working on the next series, “The Winds of Winter,” which is the sixth installment of A Song of Ice and Fire series. The series was initially intended in the early stages of the series. Martin concluded that the series would be succeeded by the final novel, A Dream of Spring. In this article, we will talk about George Martin’s new series, on which characters it will be based on, when we are going to read it, and many more such details.

George Raymond Richard Martin, also known as GRRM, is an American novelist and a short story writer in the genre of horror, fantasy, and science fiction. He is also a television producer and screenwriter. In the year of 2005, Lev Grossman of Time called George by the name “American Tolkien,” and in 2011, he was included on the Times 100 list of the most influential people. Martin started selling short stories of science fiction professionally at the age of 21, in 1970. The first sale of his career was “The Hero,” which was sold to Galaxy magazine. Martin briefly returned to novel writing in 1991. He was sad and frustrated that due to limitations of the budget in TV-related production, he was forced to cut characters and trim battle scenes. He admires the work of J.R.R. Tolkien in his childhood, and always wanted to write an epic fantasy, but he did not have any ideas.

A Game of Thrones was published in 1996. Then in 1998, A Clash of Kings and A Storms of Swords in 2000. A Feast for Crows was the fourth novel in this series, published in 2005 and became The New York Times number one Bestseller.

The Book

The Winds of Winter will take its reader farther to the north, and the Whitewalkers will also appear in the book. In the previous series, A Dance with Dragons covered significantly less story than Martin thought, which excluded one extensive battle sequence. Martin said he would open the series with two big battles, the battle in the ice and the battle at Meereen- the battle of Slaver’s Bay. The chapter of Victarion Greyjoy will start after five minutes of the end of A Dance with Dragons, taking the start of the arrival of Ironborn in the evening in Slaver’s Bay. In a book fair, named Guadalajara International Book Fair in 2016, Martin gave the audience some clues about the dark plot of The Winds of Winter. He said the story had been told to its viewers for 20 years that “Winter is coming.” The phrase indicates that winter is that time when things die, and the world would fill with the cold and ice, which is not going to be happy for some characters.

Martin also confirmed that The Winds of Winter would be based on point-of-view of some characters, namely Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Arianne Martell, Aeron Grejoy, Theon Greyjoy, Victarion Greyjoy, Tyrion Lannister, and Barristan Selmy. He also said that characters like Areo Hotah, Melisandre, Bran Stark and Cersei Lannister would also be the part of the series but as a part of viewpoints and will not add any elaborated viewpoint characters.

If the pre-production work goes well, the series is expected to be released somewhere around the next year. In the meantime, we are trying to analyze in which way The Winds of Winter might improve some of the disappointing aspects of Game of Thrones.

Samwell Tarly

Samwell Tarly, he is the most sympathetic and quietly brave character in Game of Thrones. He is honest, loyal, and intelligent. However, Samwell is relegated to the background because he would spend most of his time reading a book rather than wielding a sword. He was playing second fiddle to Jon Snow, but he has his ambitions and learns to defend himself. However, Game of Thrones avoided Sam’s storyline. It built up his training at the Citadel, but the whole plot was over in a flash. Until now we saw, Sam finally became a maester himself after spending a lot of time in Citadel. Now in The Winds of Winter, there are a couple of paths of his journey, he could go on being a maester, or he could stand at the center of a powerful prophecy. But the next novel has an opportunity to bring back Sam and to make his character more relevant. However, long-running fan theory suggests that the reason for Sam’s inability to fit in with the House Tarly is because he is Aegon Targaryen, the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell. It is believed that Aegon Targaryen died by the Mountain during Robert’s rebellion. However, the theory suggests that Aegon was smuggled out of King’s Landing by Varys, and he gave him to Randyll to raise. And also, Sam being Targaryen would explain why Tarly was cruel to Aegon and sent him to the Night’s Watch.

The Hound and The Mountain

The two rival brothers, Sandor Clegane, who was also known as “The Hound” and Gregor, who was named “The Mountain.” in the series Game of Thrones, presented a tumultuous relationship between these two, filled with hatred and anger. And after years, audiences speculated that the brothers eventually killed each other. This then became known as Cleganebowl. Cleganbowl originated when Cersei Lannister called for a trial by combat, after the death of her son Joffrey. In The Wind of Winter, the sixth book in A Song of Ice and Fire series might not involve Cleganebowl for one big reason. The brothers’ rivalry began when they were very young. Gregor, who was five years older than Sandor, was monstrous. Sandor grew up under the shadow of his brother and feared Gregor. The young Sandor liked his brother’s sword and took it to play with. In response, Gregor shoved his younger brother’s face into the burning coal and held him down. Sandor was mentally and physically scarred after that incident. And perhaps the worst part is his father lied to everyone about the experience. Sandor followed his brother’s footsteps and also joined the house Lannister, but he never took vows to become an official knight.

Later in the story, he tied the bond with Arya Stark, but she ditched him and left him for dead after his battle with the Brienne of Tarth. Although in Martin’s book, Sandor never actually fought Brienne. In the end, Sandor threw himself at Gregor and ended Cleganebowl. But it was not clear whether they died or are still alive.
