Sophia Loren and Her Son Returning With Netflix’s The Life Ahead

Sophia Loren is returning to the big screen after a decade. The upcoming movie is a directorial project of her son, Edoardo Ponti. She was last seen in an adaptation of Jean Cocteau’s stage play titled, The Human Voice. Loren will appear in Netflix’s upcoming release, The Life Ahead.

The Human Voice was first staged at the Comédie Française in 1930. It is set in Paris where a young woman is on the phone with her lover. He is going to marry another woman the next day, which causes the woman emotional pain.

Cocteau used his experiments with the human voice in his play La voix humaine. The play starts with a woman with a telephone as a prop talking to her invisible inaudible lover. Cocteau explores the feelings and ideas that concern human needs in communication.

In 2014 Loren featured in the short feature film, which is the adaptation of the play titled, ‘Voce Umana.’ It was a 25 minutes long movie, directed by Ponti. The short film got a 6.5 rating on IMDB based on 383 voters.

The version of the play was recently adapted during lockdown by Pedro Almodovar and Tilda Swinton. 2020 The Human Voice had premiered at the Venice Film Festival on 3 September 2020. It is scheduled to release on 21 October 2020 in Spain by Avalon and Wanda Films.

The mother-son duo also collaborated before for a 2002 movie, Between Strangers. The film is 95 minutes long. Between Stranger screened on 30 August 2002 at Venice Film Festival and released on 4 October 2002 in the United States.

After six years, Loren is again featuring in a drama movie, The Life Ahead. Ponti has directed the film and also co-wrote the screenplay with Ugo Chiti. The film is based on Romain Gary’s novel The Life Before Us.

The film’s plot takes Loren to the local children who require help, including twelve years old Senegalese immigrant, Momo, played by Ibrahima Gueye. During the film’s journey, the two created a strong bond, which is often tremendously moving and hilarious.

Recently, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she shared her experiences during World War II. She said she was a little girl then, and the experiences of the war never left her. She added that even if 100 years passed by, it would still be there. And till now, when she heard something about war on television, she jumped out of terror. Loren revealed that she found the truth of the character, Madame Rosa, by uncovering her own experiences.

Sophia Loren is an Italian actress and one of the famous actresses in Hollywood’s Golden Age. She started her acting career at the age of 16 in 1950. She appeared in Vittorio De Sica’s 1961 movie Two Women. Loren received the Academy Award for Best Actress for the movie and became the first actress or actor to earn an Oscar for the film in a foreign language. She has received five Golden Globes, a BAFTA Award, a Grammy Award, the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival, and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival.

Fans are excited to watch the mother and son’s collaboration once again after six years. The film is scheduled for limited release on 6 November 2020 and digitally distributed by Netflix on 13 November 2020.

Should You Watch “Social Distance” on Netflix?

Yes, even though this anthology series travels through that same pandemic-era cliché route of how people are coping up in these unprecedented times.

It’s a video conferencing series (remotely produced) created by Hilary Weisman Graham which tackles the kind of problems that an ordinary human has faced in the pandemic era. It’s a new addition to the list of movies produced during the pandemic months.

In the opening scene of the series, we see a shot of the barbershop and a date at the middle of the screen-“April  2, 2020.”

Then we shift to a zoom screen where Mike Colter is having a conversation about how peaceful he was in the lockdown up until the point where everything just fell apart.

This is the first episode we are talking about, and it is about Ike, a barbershop owner, who is living alone because he has recently broken up with his girlfriend. He explains his situation in the AA meeting happening through a Zoom call where he says that apart from being sober for 18 months, there is nothing that is going well for him. His business is closed, his girlfriend has left him, and now he has no idea what he should do with his life. He calls his friend and regrets it immediately because that reminds him of his drinking days. Finally, when his sponsor asks him to make most of his time, he decides to make himself popular by posting photos of himself and his potted fern.

This was the first episode, the next one was about a family drama, a senior man in the family has died, and three siblings are arguing with each until uncle Tony (Miguel Sandoval) steps in and says something. The third episode was about a mother named  Imani, who has to watch her daughter and take care of a paralyzed woman at the same time. When the paralyzed woman’s poetry professor daughter keeps giving reasons for not visiting, Imani makes an innovative arrangement.

You may watch the series, especially its first three episodes because of its funny jokes. The creators have refrained from using hackneyed lines in the dialogues and decided to use the crisis as an accepted reality rather than debilitating consternation. The one criticism that echoed from the series was its lack of involvement in the sentimental scenes, especially the time when Mike Colter is going deep into his psychology. Some may feel a shade of sympathy for him, but there wasn’t enough pull-in factor. T

However, all the actors do create a light-hearted environment which might get you through with all the episodes.

There is no steamy hot scene, so if you are looking for that, please be disappointed. And why are you looking for that in the lockdown, anyway?

I would recommend you to stream an episode and see if you like these kinds of stories. Since this is an anthological tale, there is no need to be worried about the continuity of the plot. It doesn’t matter whether you click on episode 1 or episode3, you will always begin a new chapter.

I hope the next episodes focus on the funny stuff rather than striving to get viewers all teary-eyed. Everybody is suffering, we all know that now let’s just get on with it.

“Emily in Paris” is an Awful Show

Even though the creator has created some overrated pop culture stuff like “Younger”, Emily in Paris was just an unwatchable show.

“Emily in Paris” is currently in the top 10 charts of Netflix’s most watched content this week. However, it makes you question the authenticity of the chart or the likes of people in general. The half-hour long comedy-drama offers you nothing but attractive people doing attractive things which may entertain you for a while if you like escaping your prosaic life. But, then again, this is not the type of content that should be there in the top 10 of any charts in the world other than the one that goes something like “Top 10 Pretentious Shows of All Time.”

I reckon that “Younger” got much more praise than it actually deserved. However, you have to agree that the above-mentioned series had the wit and charm to get you through with it. But, “Emily in Paris,” well, it was just a polychromatic waste of time.

“Emily in Paris” is an escapist genre scripted show consisting of ten half-hour episodes which is run by lively and jubilant Lily Collins’ character Emily and though she should not be blamed for the negative critical responses that the show is getting (the concept is terrible), she hasn’t done anything brilliant either. She has given just about an okay-okay performance.

The show starts with Emily’s friend (Kate Walsh) giving up a job opportunity in Paris because she is pregnant. Emily, who has been introduced to us as a marketing expert, arrives at a high-profile company in Paris and takes everything by storm. Even though the show relays the story of a corporate world and people are supposed to be smart there, each and every character on the show is nothing short of a glamorous supermodel.

Just barely mentioning harassment, gender, and bold female arguments do not make a show feminist. The fact that all the problems Emily ever faced in her new company was related to her being American and her lack of understanding of the French culture takes the show far away from a well-accepted idea of feminism. Feminism is a serious issue in the modern world, so before venturing into such a domain, the creator should have done some proper research.

In very simple terms, none of the corporate world’s strong women acts in a way that Emily does on the show.

The worst aspect of the show is the fact that we see a story from the eyes of a social media influencer. I mean, really? And in the end, she did not even adapt to the Parisian culture at all as it is pointed out by a very talented critic Joshua Rivera for Verge.

Emily, a social media influencer, now spends most of her time working. By working, I mean that she is selling. She is just helping brands get bigger, not the actual people who need help in their success. It isn’t a hero’s journey. She is not my hero.

Netflix’s The Witcher season 2 loses Eskel actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen

The second season of Netflix’s The Witcher series has recently resumed production, but the sad part is that the show has lost actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen, who was going to play the role of the witcher, Eskel. According to one of the statements revealed by Rasmussen, he will no longer portray Eskel in the second season because of some scheduling conflicts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the information, Thue Ersted Rasmussen was very sad about not resuming the second season of The Witcher. He said, “It’s heartbreaking, but I mostly feel happy and grateful for the days I got to spend on set earlier this year.” According to the book series, the role of Eskel is included in the further story of Geralt and Ciri’s journey. Therefore, the streaming service will have to recast for the replacement of Thue Ersted Rasmussen.

The Witcher is an excellent story of fate and family. It is based on one of the best-selling fantasy series of books. Geralt of Rivia is a solitary monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world of people that are wicked than beasts. However, destiny forcefully moves him toward a powerful sorceress and young princess with a dangerous secret. But, the three should learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent with each other.

In Netflix’s series The Witcher, Henry Cavill is playing the role of Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra is playing the role of Yennefer, and Freya Allan is playing the role of Ciri. The one-month long dalliance with his ex Mami Nanami has made him take such a drastic step as he hopes to find the right balance in life. He meets his rented girlfriend, Chizuru Mizuhara on an online app. But thinking that she is too good to be true, Kazuya gives him a low rating for which he is later reprimanded by her. He takes her to meet his grandmother after she collapses in the hospital, to his surprise, his grandmother really likes Chizuru when she gets to know her. Kazuya then keeps renting her to make his friends and family happy, but things get weird when they find out that they are next-door neighbors who attend the same college.  

Released earlier this year, the show became a huge success this year. The show was able to compete with other anime like In/Spectre, God of High School and Tower of God, which have been great hits of this summer. Even though season 1 of the show has just concluded, the excited fans are already speculating release dates of season 2. The season finale just premiered this Friday, and it has been officially announced that the show is renewed for a season 2.

However, the announcement of season 2 is hardly a surprise looking at the success that Rent a Girlfriend has had. The 100 Recap: Crucial Instances When Clarke and Bellamy Teamed Up

Two protagonists of the post-apocalyptic CW drama series “The 100” weren’t exactly like best buddies all the time. In fact, they started out as rivals before becoming pals. They have been through landslides after landslides, and the dynamics of their relationship is a work of art. They can understand each other, they can fight against each other; and when the time is generous towards them, they can make each other win.

But one thing is a certainty-when their skills and courage are combined, the duo is unbeatable.

So, here are the instances when the two hearts of the story Clarke Griffin (played by Eliza Taylor) and Bellamy Blake (played by Bob Morley) teamed up together big time.

The Force that Binds Them all

At the end of the season, we see the duo at the peak of their leadership, especially when they join hands to keep Grounders away from the delinquents. The duo forget their differences after the death of Charlotte and agree that both of their priorities converge on the point that leads to the safety and unity of the survivors.

At the end of the season, the duo helps the “100” in understanding each other and in realizing that their best interest is in helping each other.

Destroying the Cruelty of A.L.I.E.

It was high time, and Clarke and Bellamy had to forget about their conflict involving Pike and Lexa. A.L.I.E. was becoming mighty powerful at the end of Season 3 because Jaha had been providing her with chips that gave her superpower to gain control of everyone’s mind.

With all the hope dying away and everyone coming under the grip of A.L.I.E. It was Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia, Raven, and Monty that came together to form a defying resistance against the menacing cruelty.

The final blow was given by Clarke when she confronted A.L.I.E. on the Flame and on the City of Light. Bellamy stood his ground in reality, protecting Clarke’s body.

Rescuing 47 from Mount Weather

When Clarke and Bellamy found out the reality about Mount Weather and the horror behind the scenes, they became petrified. Being heroes of the world, they couldn’t tolerate the fact that grounders were being locked up in their cages and were drained of their blood. So, both of them formulated a plan, the first step of it was for Bellamy to get inside Mount Weather as an inside man.

They talked to each other on the radio during the entire mission, but their clever understanding of the situation becomes clear at the end when they don’t dispute on whether or not they should pull the trigger.

Praimfaya Apocalypse

The duo again showed maturity and showed that they do not possess any stupid ego in the face of impending danger. Clarke and Bellamy become acquaintances once again, forgiving each other’s past mistakes and quickly sets upon on their quest for survival against an apocalyptic Praimfaya.

Furthermore, the possibility of a conflict was less because everyone understood that if they don’t work together, Praimfaya will kill them all.

Monty’s Final Words

At the end of Season 6, Monty said his goodbye to Clarke, Bellamy and the rest of the group and wished that all of them would do better in the future.

Despite the duo’s die-trying efforts, people were still dying, and the group was getting thinner and thinner. The message compels the duo to look each other in the eye and feel the helplessness that is pervading between them. They couldn’t help but ask themselves-‘are they doing better?’

The Great British Baking Show: All the Seasons Ranked

Season 11 of the most beloved British baking show is up and baking! The first episode of the reality show aired on September 22, 2020, on Channel 4. The new season by Love Production will be first releasing its episodes weekly on Tuesdays after which they will be available to stream on Netflix on Fridays. The production of the Great British Bake Off (GBBO) was impacted due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, the show is back on the screens after months of speculation. Yet again, the show is judged by Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, and hosted by Noel Fielding and Little Britain’s Matt Lucas, who has replaced Sandi Toksvig from the previous season.

Also, the GBBO had reserved really difficult rights to crack back then. The only upside to not being able to watch the first two seasons could be the quality of production that was used ten years back, which you won’t be interested to see.

9/10 – Season 5

The Great British Bake Off is not only loved for its cakes and puddings but also for the amateurish charm and the cordial thing the show has. However, this was not the case with episode number 4 of season 5. In this particular episode, Iain Watters trashes his melted Baked Alaska after another contestant Diana Beard removed it from the freezer. It took no time for this incident to turn into a controversial and accusation plot against Diana. No one knows what exactly happened on the show but it sure became popular as #BinGate.

8/10 – Season 2

Sometimes, it’s not the recipe, but the gossipy incidents that the viewers take with them. And the first few seasons of GBBO have been filled with wild ones. There was an incident in season 2, where contestant Rob dropped his chocolate genoise mousse cake, Paul rushed to help, and together they were able to save enough cake for the judges to taste. The judges must have loved the mousse off of the floor, right?

7/10 – Season 3

This season saw one of the most exciting uncanny personalities to date.  Contestants like Brendan, who loved to bath in his dough,  James, who had a wardrobe of hideous yet comfy sweaters, John who had an interesting ability to injure himself, and Cathryn, who unbearably lacks common sense, were the darlings of the season. Plus, who can forget the way Cathryn tossed her dough in the air only to land it on the carpeted floor. 

6/10 – Season 10

Season 10 of “Bake Off” witnessed unbeatable camaraderie among the contestants. It was touching to see how the remaining contestants used to be genuinely sad, each time after someone was eliminated. But the only reason season 10 is given sixth place is because the remaining five were just so ludicrously tasty.

5/10 – Season 4

Nothing could have made this season admirable other than the rainbow picnic pie made by Frances. She made this oh-so-yum looking and tasting (according to the judges of course) pie, which was sheer art. Frances also won the season upon her picnic pie.

4/10 – Season 7

Contestant and winner Candice is the one for whom season 7 is known for. Throughout the season she maintained her strong will and worked hard to take the biscuit. Candice raised the bar high with the gingerbread pub in the second week. Plus, who can forget Mary’s spectacular outfits on the season finale, and Mell and Sue’s effortless humor and warmth throughout.

3/10 – Season 8

Season 8 is popular for nothing more than the dazzling and illusional cake displays that the contestants kept coming out with. The stunning Victoria sandwich cake made by Steven was an unforgettable sight. Yan came out with the most realistic presentation with her cake, disguised as a bowl of noodles.

2/10 – Season 9

This season is known for its incredible storylines, emotions, and most of all, the funny bakers. Kim-Joy introduced Japanese flavors and techniques in the tent, Ruby brought the party atmosphere with his lively behavior, and Rahul who transformed from an introvert to the smiling winner at the end.

1/10 – Season 6

Started with drama and unbelievable talent, Season 6 is mostly remembered for Nadiya’s winning speech. The figure of optimism, Nadiya has since become a prominent figure in British culinary and television culture. The inspirational lady now has multiple series of her own and has won plenty of awards for her cookbooks.

The series involved two long prepared heists, one is the Royal Mint of Spain, and another is the Bank of Spain. Filmmakers initially planned to create a short series of 15 episodes that aired on Spanish network Antena 3 on 2 May 2017. Later in the same year, the rights were bought by Netflix, and the series was cut into 22 shorter episodes and featured on the platform on 20 December 2017. The shooting of the show started in Madrid, Spain; and some parts of the show were filmed in Panama, Italy, and Thailand. The plot of the show has been told from the perspective of the character Tokyo played by actress Ursula Corbero.
