NBC’s Saturday Night Live Plans to Resume Shooting in Fall

NBC’s Saturday Night Live Plans to Resume Shooting in Fall

The world was hit by the pandemic a few months back. The public health crisis brought the world as a whole to a complete standstill. The global entertainment industry was hit hard due to lockdowns on filming in the current scenario—a few production houses shut down production to ensure the safety of their cast and crew. One prime example is NBC’s Saturday Night Live. They stopped filming the episodes to ensure that no one is harmed during the pandemic.

Plans Cut Short Because of the Pandemic

According to reports, Saturday Night Live could resume shooting in the coming fall season. The final episode of season 45 filmed in the studio before the pandemic featured Daniel Craig and The Weeknd. In addition to this, the hit sketch comedy show was all set to return in March, but plans were cut short because of the pandemic.

However, the current scenario did not deter the makers from concluding season 45 with episodes shot from the comfort of everyone’s homes. These “home” episodes featured Hollywood A-listers such as Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Paul Rudd, etc. One of the episodes had Phoebe Waller-Bridge showcase her Masterclass spoof videos. The makers concluded season 45 with its final episode on May 9, 2020.

Is SNL Going to Resume Shooting in The Fall?

According to reports, there are ongoing talks and plans on bringing back the comedy show to the studio for season 46. If the pandemic continues to plague the world, the makers will not have any choice but to film from the comfort of their homes and without a live studio audience. If the makers plan to shoot season 46 in the fall season, it will coincide with the elections. Saturday Night Live is known for showcasing hilarious portrayals of various politicians. One of the most notable episodes contains Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin mimicking US President Donald Trump.

The United States of America is still recording thousands of cases every day. Even if the studio decides to bring back in-studio filming, it will be completely different. Both cast and crew will have to follow social distancing guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone nearby. Also, there will be no live audience.

According to reports, it is just speculation regarding the plans on resuming filming in the coming months. Still, there is no official announcement of when the hit show will return to the studio. Till then, the show will have to keep making their audience laugh through their respective homes.

NBC’s Hit Variety Show- Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live is a late-night variety show. SNL has been created by Canadian-American television producer Lorne Michaels and has been developed by American Television Executive Dick Ebersol. The show’s first episode premiered on television on October 11, 1975, and offered hit segments such as a parody on politics and contemporary topics.

The host of every Saturday Night Live episode is a celebrity. They most of the time deliver the monologue and are a part of sketch acts with the cast of that particular episode. Every episode also features a performance by someone from the music industry. The show usually opens with a cold open act which stops with more than one cast member saying “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”. The original cast of the show included Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman, John Belushi, Garrett Morris, and Jane Curtin.

In the year 2002, Saturday Night Live came in at the 10th position on TV Guide’s 50 most excellent television shows of all time. In 2007, it was honored by Time Magazine with inclusion in the magazine’s list of 100 Best TV Shows of All Time.
