Creative Things to Do With an Old Android Tablet

Creative Things to Do With an Old Android Tablet

Everyone loves buying new gadgets. However, what is to be done with the old ones? Recycling is the best way to give a new life to an old thing. It is always better to use an old article in new ways than throwing it. This article will provide you with some ideas about using your old Android tablet. Here are some ways to help you reuse or repurpose your old Android tablet.

Turn it into a Digital Picture Frame

You can use your old Android tablet as a photo frame. You can set a slideshow on display and connect it with different online photo frame servers like Google Photos, Flickr, or another photo-sharing service and display those photos in your home. This is one of the best ways to use your old Android tablet.

Use it as an Alarm Clock

You can use an old Android tab as an alarm because its big display can present a large time display. You can install an alarm clock application, set the alarm for when you want to wake up.

Pass it on

If you have a younger family member and he/she is asking for a tablet, you can pass your old tablet to him/her. Kids don’t need the newest model with the fastest processors, so you can recycle it and make it useful for your younger sibling.

If you don’t have younger siblings, you can donate your device to someone who needs it. Donate the device to a worthy cause or a charity such as Cell Phones For Soldiers, Rainforest Connection, and Medic Mobile. This will help you put your tablet to work again while doing some good.

Read Ebooks

You can use your old Android tablet to read books; this is one of the best ways to repurpose it. So you can download an e-book reader from the Play Store and enjoy reading your favorite books.

Get Help in the Kitchen

Download some recipe apps and start making new dishes with the help of your old device. You can watch movies and listen to radio broadcasts if you feel bored while cooking.

Control your Smart Home

Using the old Android tablet to control home automation is one of the best uses. You can use it to adjust AC, TV, and other devices.

Release Date of Android 11 and Other Updates

Release Date of Android 11 and Other Updates

Google has come up with a new update for Android, and its team has leaked the launch date as well. However, a public statement has not been made to confirm its release date. The latest update is Android 11 that has been officially launched, but the final version of the software will be available on smartphones on or after 8th September this year.

This update is not available on all the devices. People who have Google Pixel 2 or later phones from the Google Pixel’s family had early access to the Android 11 since February 2020. The official release of this update had to be done on 3rd June, but Google postponed its release date due to the sensitivity of global protests and decided to make the announcement online later this year. The Android 11 update is not Android Rhubarb and Custard, or Android Rocky Road; rather, it is packed with a lot of exciting updates.

There is no official statement by Google about the update and features that the Android 11 will offer, but a lot of rumors have been going around that spills some tea about the upcoming features. Using a series of development focus videos and a blog post, the Android team decided to launch the beta version of the update. One of the features that this update will provide is Smart Home Controls for which you can switch on or off the toggles for all the supported Smart Home devices with a long press of the power button. Under the Device Control option, you will be able to use this feature. This update also brings improved media controls for switching the output device for audio and video content without any hassle. So now you will be able to switch your headphones with speakers or a TV or any other device as quickly as possible. You will probably find a recycle bin in the Android 11 file system from where you can get back all the accidentally deleted files and data. Now you will also be able to distinguish whether your device is using a 4G connection or Wi-Fi connection. This will prove beneficial to optimize content and give better performance on a device, regardless of the connection you use.

Moreover, there is a huge possibility that the notification bar of Android 11 will have its dedicated conversation section so that you can distinguish between the apps notification and conversation notifications easily. If you are someone who worries a lot about internet securities and data theft, then Android 11 will change the game for you. To use the apps, you need to permit them to use your camera, locations, access contacts, and others to function properly. But with the Android 11 feature, you can get them the permission for ‘Just This Once’ so that you can control what these apps try to take access over on your phone. The permissions will reset if you don’t use these apps frequently. Thus, you will receive occasional prompts to confirm your permissions to keep your data secured.

Currently, the Android 11 public beta version is available which you can download on your device only if it’s compatible with the update. But don’t be so quick to judge the update as it is not the original version and lacks a lot of features that the original version offers. You can expect the Android 11 to release this September.

How to See and Control App Permissions on Your SmartPhone

How to See and Control App Permissions on Your SmartPhone

Most of the third-party apps require special permissions on your phone to work accurately. Some third-party video players, music players, and file managers might prompt you to provide your phone’s storage permission. Several third-party apps might also require access to your phone’s messages and calls. In order to ensure the well-being of your device, you should always check the permissions obtained from installed apps on your device. Nowadays, most of the new Android versions allow users to easily oversee and control app permission from one place.

Allowing permissions to random apps could have dreadful outcomes. For example, if an app requires SMS and call reading permissions, it could also read the OTPs sent by your bank. The app developers and owners can use it to make random transactions on your bank account.

Some apps demand storage permissions, and if you allow it, the app developer gets complete access to your phone’s storage, which could be a privacy threat. These apps can easily steal data from your device, and then the developers can sell it to third parties for advertisement purposes.

If the app you have installed is not much reliable and is downloaded from unofficial sources such as unofficial websites, even worse can happen to your privacy.

Hence, it is indeed important to regularly view and control app permission on your Android device. It is not a hard task at all in the newer Android version. Within a few taps, you can reach the Android App Permissions manager tool.

In this article, you will be learning how to quickly see and control app permissions on Android.

2 Types of App Permissions

Android devices have two types of app permissions that you should view and manage in order to make sure that the app doesn’t become a threat to your device.

The first type of app permission is granted to an application before downloading and installing it from Google Play Store. Most users just blindly confirm these app permissions while installing an app from Google Play Store. You might also have allowed apps to use your phone’s messages, storage, and other resources in order to install and run.

Even though some people know about these permissions, they allow the app to use them to get the app working.

Gladly, in the past several years, another type of app permissions came to existence. These permissions are only available on Android 6.0 or newer. With the new app permission feature on Android 6.0, users can grant permissions to the app only for the period they are in use. When the apps are not in use, your phone itself revokes the app permissions. This innovation has created significant awareness among users to carefully allow app permissions.

The latest Android, like 9.0 Pie and Android 10, has improved security significantly. Now the SMS and call log access are divided from the general app permissions. Even if you allow an app to use the “Phone” permission, it will not include access to your SMS and call logs. This will simply prevent apps from reading and modifying your SMS and call logs. It means no app would be reading your banking OTPs, and other private or sensitive SMS without your dedicated consent.

This will significantly enhance the security of your banking transactions because it was too easy for the app developers to read your SMS prior to this update.

However, you can’t revoke several app permissions even on the latest Android if they are granted at the time of installation. If you need special permission after the installation to work, you can easily manage it on your device. You grant and revoke these types of permission anytime as per your desire.

How to See and Manage App Permission on Android

Follow the below instructions to open the app permissions wizard and then view allowed and disallowed app permissions:

Navigate to the Settings app on your smartphone.
Then look for the option saying “Apps & Notifications” and then click on it.
Once you are in, head to “App Permissions.”
Now App Permissions wizard is open, and you can view particular permissions of your apps.  For example, the app permissions are sorted by type of permission like Camera, Contacts, SMS, Microphone, etc.
You can tap on permission to see what apps are currently using it.
To revoke permission from an app, simply toggle the slider switch.
That is how you can easily oversee and view app permission on your smartphone. You should check whether app permission granted by a specific app makes any sense. For example, if you see a third-party camera app asking you to provide SMS permission, it doesn’t make any sense. You should inspect all apps and permissions carefully on your device to ensure optimal security.

What Is Peacock and Why It Is Beneficial for                                  Android Users?

What is Peacock?

Peacock is one of the upcoming video streaming service providers, and NBC Universal has produced it. As per the official sources, the platform will show all the classic and recent shows premiered by various broadcast and cable networks.

The new service provider will be led by Matt Strauss. He is also known for leading Comcast Xfinity cable products.

Launch Date And Availability Of This Streaming Service

The availability of this streaming service is limited. The streaming of this service is available to Flex and Comcast Xfinity X1 customers. The rest of the consumers from the United States will have access to this streaming service from July 15.

On Which Platform and Device Will The Peacock Be Available

As per the official announcement by the NBCUniversal, the Peacock is available on both Android and iOS devices. Even the company assures that soon it will be available for Android smart TV, Apple TV, and Xbox One game console.

Subscription Details

The company is offering its subscription in two different ways. You can use this service for free of cost with ads. The other one is the premium account, in which you will need to pay a little amount to get more content.

The free version offers 7,500 hours of enjoying their service with the ads. The consumers who are watching the free version will not be able to watch the new episodes on the same day. They have to wait for at least one day for watching the new episodes of the show broadcasted on the premium platform. On the free Peacock’s version, you can watch the complete classic TV series with some selected popular movies.

The premium version of this platform offers 15,000 hours of content for their subscribers. If you have a premium account, then you can watch all the exclusive Peacock shows, live sports, and many more. The premium account will cost you around $4.99 per month with ads. But if you are a Cox Cable and Comcast subscriber, then they will get the premium account for free. If you hate ads and want to avoid them completely, then you have to spend around $5 more per month. So, if you want an ads-free premium account, then you need to pay $9.99.

Even those who have Android TV or Android devices can have the free access of premium versions from July 15 to October 15.

Pre-order And Save Money

NBCUniversal is offering its consumers to pre-order the service before the launch of the product. You can save up to 40 percent by pre-ordering it. If you pre-order the yearly subscription of the ad-supported version, then it will cost you around $29.99, and for the ad-free version, you may need to spend $79.99.

Classic TV Shows On This Platform

NBCUniversal claims that most of the videos from the different platforms will be going to launch on this platform. Even the Peacock will be the exclusive streaming platform for the US version of The Office.

One of the most popular TV series “workplace sitcoms” is available on Netflix and soon it is available on Peacock. But if you want to watch the current and new episodes right now, then you can watch it from Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. You can watch the classic episodes of Workplace sitcom exclusively on Peacock after October 2020.

Is There Any Sports And News Content On Peacock?

If you follow sports closely, then you might know that NBC is the home for the 2021 summer Olympics that is going to be held in Japan. So, it means that after completion of the one year in 2021, there is some sports coverage on this streaming platform.

The Reboot of The Office On Peacock

As mentioned earlier, the service will stream the episodes of The Office (US version) in next year, January. No doubt, there is a huge fan base of this season, and the subscribers might want the full-fledged series of all-new episodes. The chairman of NBCUniversal stated that they will do the best reboot of The Office.

If a reboot of The Office debuts on Peacock, then there is a possibility that you won’t see the original star Steve Carell in that reboot. Carell is going to appear in the initial season of The Morning Show, which will be aired on Apple TV Plus streaming service from November 1.

Chances of Success

No doubt, NBCUniversal is known for offering best and popular content and offers an enormous content library. In the short term, the Peacock will become the best streaming platform with some of the original content. In January 2021, the streaming of The Office on this platform will become a great option for the Peacock.

But there are tons of already existing streaming services, and Peacock is running from April 2020. It will be very difficult for the Peacock to gain the consumers and offer the services so that they can buy the premium version.

The launching of the reboot of The Office and the original content on Peacock can help them to generate the consumers easily.
