Why Location Tracking Is a Privacy Nightmare For Everyone

Why Location Tracking Is a Privacy Nightmare For Everyone

Lots of folks use the location tracker through their devices, and they find it quite convenient. You may be one of them and use your device as the location finder. No doubt, these apps are too good, easy to use, and helpful. But there is a rule of nature that if you want something and then you need to sacrifice something. The same way the location finder affects your privacy.

You know what, the application that uses your location like Tim Hortons app bundles your location data in one place. With your location data, they tried to frame the detailed pictures about you like how, when, and where you are living your life.

Quite scary! But it’s not the worst part of these kinds of applications. Tim Hortons is a coffee company and does not have the technological background. So, they have been working with another company as the partner that can use the in-built location monitoring in the app to keep a close watchdog on you. The partners are doing their part in which they are specialized. These partners are working with other companies as well, so your location data is the company network.

In this way, multiple companies can access your detailed location data, even if you have never installed that specific application. You can read hundreds of articles on how companies like Popeye’s Chicken, Tim Hortons, and Burger King that use your detailed location. Actually, these three companies are the branch companies of Restaurant Brands International that use service companies like Radar Labs to collect your phone’s location details. There is no evidence that Radar Labs uses your detailed location data for right or wrong things, but one thing is sure that other brands who use their service can also access the same data collected from different clients.

You might think about the relevancy of this blog in today’s time. It is extremely relevant, as most folks are ordering their foods from online delivery platforms as they are in the home. If you don’t allow the location to the application, then you can’t order food online. Even some of the applications say that they will use your location at the time of ordering food or using the app. But sometimes, you will get the notification like this restaurant serves near you, even when you haven’t enabled the location.

It is a real privacy nightmare. Some other apps, like Pizza Hut, Facebook, and even Google Maps, use the same algorithm. These data are sufficient to know where you live, work, or go on vacation or where you spend money and many more.

It is the reason you always have to be aware of how giving location access is like breaching your privacy. There are flaws in Android 10, but Android 11 has the better implementation of the one-time location permission, which will help you to prevent your privacy to a larger extent.

So, allowing applications like Popeye’s Chicken and Tim Hortons to use your location all day can prove risky for your privacy. When you see any notification, which is related to the notification, then you must think twice before allowing, or you can delete that application.
