How to Fix Unrecoverable Playback Error with Foobar








Foobar2000 is an advanced music player for iOS, Android, and Windows. It offers several great features for users. The audio player is quite popular for its highly modular design. While using the app on Windows, some users encounter the ‘unrecoverable playback error.’ If you are facing the same issue, then go through the solutions mentioned below.


Run Settings Troubleshooter of Windows Media Player

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + R button to launch the Run Prompt.
  2. In the Run command-line, type “Control Panel” and click “OK” to open.
  3. Select “troubleshooter” and then click on the “View all” button.
  4. Select “Windows Media Player Settings” to launch it on your screen.
  5. Select “Advanced” and then click on the “Apply repairs automatically” button.
  6. Click on “Next” to start the Troubleshooter.

Turn off DX mode

If you are using Foobar along with Xonar DX control centre then first you need to turn off GX mode. To do so, you only need to launch the DX control centre and then deactivate the GX mode.

Restart Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + R button to open the Run prompt.
  2. In the run search field type “services.msc” and tap “OK” to open it on the screen.
  3. Right-click on “Windows Audio Endpoint Builder” and then click on the “Restart” button in the context menu.

Change Default Audio Format to 16-Bit

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Right-click on the Speaker logo in the system tray and then click “Open Sound settings.”
  2. Select “Sound Control Panel.”
  3. Right-click on the default audio device and then click “properties.’
  4. Click the “Advanced” button.
  5. Now click “16-bit (CD quality)” in the dropdown menu.
  6. Click the “Apply” button.
  7. Select “OK” to close the window.

Reinstall Windows Media Player

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. In the search field type “optionalfeatures.exe” and tap the “Enter” button on your keyboard.
  2. Double-tap on “Media Features.”
  3. Deselect “Windows Media Player” in the dialog box.
  4. Select “OK” to reinstall WMP.
  5. Now restart your device after reinstalling WMP.

Reinstall Foobar

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + R button to open the Run dialog box.
  2. In the run search field, type “appwiz.cpl” and click “OK” to launch Windows uninstaller.
  3. Click Foobar software, and then select “Uninstall” option.
  4. Select “Yes” to confirm.
  5. Now “Restart” your system.
  6. Download Foobar2000.
  7. Next, you need to reinstall the software and then follow the on-screen instructions.

That’s it! Now you should be able to get back to listening to your favorite songs on one of the best audio players.
