How to Fix Taskbar Icons Flickering and Flashing on Windows 10

Taskbar icons may start flickering on the screen. If you are facing this issue, then read on and learn how to fix it.
Uninstall Problematic Applications
Here are the steps to follow:
- Tap and Hold the shift buttons while tapping on the “Restart” button at the login screen.
- Click “Troubleshooter” and then select “Advanced options.”
- Click “Startup Settings” and then select “Restart.”
- When the system starts again, select “Enable Safe mode with networking.”
Use System File Checker
Here are the steps to follow:
- Launch the Command Prompt.
- Click “Run as Administrator.”
- In the search tab type “sfc/scannow” and then tap the “Enter” button on your keyboard.
- Now you need to check if the icons are still flickering or flashing.
Run DISM
To fix this issue, you need to run the DISM tool to check the system health and then try to restore files.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Open the Start screen,
- In the search field, input “command prompt” and hit Enter.
- Once the result appears on the screen, right-click on the command prompt and then click on “Run as Administrator.”
- In the Administrator command-line you need to type the given command and tap “Enter” button on your keyboard after every command:
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Now close the Administrator command prompt and type “Exit” in the search field. Then tap the “Enter” button on your keyboard.
Check If the Taskbar Flashes In the Safe Mode
Here are the steps to follow:
- In the search field type “settings” and select the top result from the list.
- Click “Updates and security” and then select “Recovery.”
- Move to “Advance Startup” and click “Restart” now.
- When your computer restarts select “troubleshoot” click “Advance option” hit “Startup settings” and then click “restart.”
- When your computer restarts, click startup settings in safe mode by tapping the corresponding button.
Update Display Driver
Updating the display driver can also fix this issue.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Tap the Windows + R button on your keyboard to launch the Run prompt.
- Type “devmgmt.msc” and press the “Enter” button on your keyboard.
- Find and enable “Display Adapter.”
- Right-click on the video driver and then click Update Driver Software.”
- After the above process, restart your PC.
If this trick does not work, then as the final resort users can try rolling back to the older version of the driver.
