Microsoft has decided to implement the Manifest V3 changes of Google in its Chromium-based Edge browser’s extensions system. On the other hand, many significant browsers have completely neglected Google’s Manifest V3 changes, but after announcing it in October 2018, Microsoft has now decided to implement it.

The Manifest V3 of Google is a certain set of changes used in Microsoft’s Chromium-based open-source Edge browser. Also, these changes will apply to the Web Extensions API. This will straightforwardly update the working method of the browser extensions on the Edge browser.

Google, under the Manifest V3, stated that they did it to improve the performance and security of the extensions and to give users more control over the extensions.

Soon after Google announced the proposed changes under Manifest V3, the extension developers immediately backfired concerning that the updates of the Manifest V3 had several other changes that can make the antivirus and other parental control software, ad blockers, and other privacy-focused extensions void.

Also, a vast number of users and even the browser makers backlashed due to this decision. They saw that Google’s move to have a more effective grip on the ad blockers was effectively hurting their primary business, Online Advertising.

However, other browsers like Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi announced to ignore the Manifest V3 updates to let their users continue the use of ad blockers.

Implementation of the Manifest V3 Changes

Google took a step back for some of the changes had planned on how Chromium would be handling the extensions. The reason for this back off was the criticism it faced over Manifest V3.

However, those changes have now started to roll out in Google’s Chrome browser. It has started making the ad blocker developers worried about their products, which won’t work effectively after these changes start to appear on the browser’s stable versions.

Google has planned to bring the preview/alpha changes of the Manifest V3 to the stable version of Chrome this year after it began last year in October.

Now you will also be able to see these changes in Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge browser, where they are currently operating in beta and stable versions.

Even though the developers of the ad blockers are still worried about their products due to these changes, Microsoft has reassured the extension developers that these changes will not affect the ad blockers operating on the browser. “We believe that these changes will not compromise the capabilities of your extension or reduce the potential that the extension ecosystem has. These changes should reduce the time taken to review each submission, and improve certification turnaround time, thus reducing the overall cost of developing and maintaining extensions. We recognize the value of content blocking extensions and appreciate the role they play in honoring user’s choice by blocking advertisements and enhancing privacy by blocking cookies, and we want developers to continue to offer these capabilities.”

Yes, even though this anthology series travels through that same pandemic-era cliché route of how people are coping up in these unprecedented times.

It’s a video conferencing series (remotely produced) created by Hilary Weisman Graham which tackles the kind of problems that an ordinary human has faced in the pandemic era. It’s a new addition to the list of movies produced during the pandemic months.

In the opening scene of the series, we see a shot of the barbershop and a date at the middle of the screen-“April  2, 2020.”

Then we shift to a zoom screen where Mike Colter is having a conversation about how peaceful he was in the lockdown up until the point where everything just fell apart.

This is the first episode we are talking about, and it is about Ike, a barbershop owner, who is living alone because he has recently broken up with his girlfriend. He explains his situation in the AA meeting happening through a Zoom call where he says that apart from being sober for 18 months, there is nothing that is going well for him. His business is closed, his girlfriend has left him, and now he has no idea what he should do with his life. He calls his friend and regrets it immediately because that reminds him of his drinking days. Finally, when his sponsor asks him to make most of his time, he decides to make himself popular by posting photos of himself and his potted fern.

This was the first episode, the next one was about a family drama, a senior man in the family has died, and three siblings are arguing with each until uncle Tony (Miguel Sandoval) steps in and says something. The third episode was about a mother named  Imani, who has to watch her daughter and take care of a paralyzed woman at the same time. When the paralyzed woman’s poetry professor daughter keeps giving reasons for not visiting, Imani makes an innovative arrangement.

You may watch the series, especially its first three episodes because of its funny jokes. The creators have refrained from using hackneyed lines in the dialogues and decided to use the crisis as an accepted reality rather than debilitating consternation. The one criticism that echoed from the series was its lack of involvement in the sentimental scenes, especially the time when Mike Colter is going deep into his psychology. Some may feel a shade of sympathy for him, but there wasn’t enough pull-in factor. T

However, all the actors do create a light-hearted environment which might get you through with all the episodes.

There is no steamy hot scene, so if you are looking for that, please be disappointed. And why are you looking for that in the lockdown, anyway?

I would recommend you to stream an episode and see if you like these kinds of stories. Since this is an anthological tale, there is no need to be worried about the continuity of the plot. It doesn’t matter whether you click on episode 1 or episode3, you will always begin a new chapter.

I hope the next episodes focus on the funny stuff rather than striving to get viewers all teary-eyed. Everybody is suffering, we all know that now let’s just get on with it.

Riddick Sequel is Finally Picking Up Pace

It was looking like the fourth installment in the Vin Diesel starrer Riddick franchise had plunged into the darkness of uncertainty, and even the reports of it finally going into the productions in the year 2020 turned out to be nothing more than a false dream.

The project, now titled “Riddick: Furya,” was reported to be still in the scripting stage in the peak pandemic months. Then a report came out that suggested that the script is nearing completion; however, due to the pandemic, any plans to begin shooting this year seems like a distant plausibility. Many voices on social media have also suggested that the creators’ wish to increase the popularity of Riddick might also be the reason that the film production is on halt right now.

However, there is a faint whisper arousing from somewhere that the development of Riddick: Furya is now moving forward with pace. Vin Diesel had confirmed in May that the Riddick 4: Furya is going into the productions soon.

According to a trusted source, Riddick 4 production team will apparently hit the grounds running, but the major details about the film are still under wraps. The studio, which is overseeing the development of Riddick, is Universal, which is also producing the next Fast & Furious film, so to keep its hero Vin Diesel happy, I reckon Universal will speed things up. Mac: Enable the Root User

Even if you are the administrator, macOS doesn’t allow you access to certain parts of the file system. In such scenarios,  you can enable the root user to gain read and write access to the entire file system. The root user provides you full control over your Mac, which can also be used to recover your password if you have forgotten. While the root user is a very useful tool, it can easily damage your Mac. That is why Apple hasn’t enabled the root access by default. But if you need to access your root account, here is how.

Through the Terminal

To enable root access through your Mac, follow the steps below:

Step 1: First, launch the Terminal and navigate to “Applications -> Utilities.”

Step 2: Once you have reaches the Terminal window, type and enter the following command:

dsenableroot

Now, the Terminal will request you to enter your password.

Step 2: Enter your password to move ahead.

Step 3: The Terminal will now prompt you to create a password for your root account. Ensure that you create a strong password, as this password can grant access to every part of your Mac.

Step 4: Once the password to the root account has been created, the following message will appear:

You have successfully enabled root on your computer. You can now complete all those tasks that were not possible through a regular user account.

Directory Utility

Follow the steps below to enable your root account via the Directory Utility:

Step 1. Right-click on the menu icon located towards the upper-right corner of your screen to open your Mac’s Spotlight.

Step 2. Once the Spotlight window opens, type and search for “Directory Utility” to select the application.

Step 3. Once the Directory Utility opens up, select the “Services” tab.

Step 4. Find the little padlock icon in the bottom-left corner and click on it to enter your username and password.

Step 5. Then click on “Edit” followed by “Enable Root User.”

Step 6. Next, you will be prompted to create a username and password for your root account.

Step 7. Then hit “OK” to create your root account.

In case you feel like disabling your root account at any point in time,  simply relaunch the Directory Utility, and click “Edit” followed by “Deactivate root user.”

Log in to the Root Account

After enabling the root account, follow the steps to log in to the root account:

Step 1. Start by logging out of your current account, as you would generally do.

Step 2. The macOS login screen will appear; here, select “Other.”

Step 3. Under the username box, type “root,” and then enter your root password.

Step 4. Finally, enter the option labeled, “Log in to the account.”

Your root account may look the same as your regular user account, but know that you can visit, edit, and even delete those files that were otherwise off-limits with access to this account.

How to Disable Root User via Terminal

The root account should be accessed only when the task particularly requires root privileges, as it may otherwise lead to malicious activities or even accidental damage. So, you must consider disabling your root as soon as it’s no longer needed.

Step 1: Start by launching your Mac’s Terminal by clicking on “Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal,”  and type the following command:

dsenableroot -d

Step 2: Enter the password for your current root account when prompted. The following message will appear:
