New Fitbit Sense Features Could Surprise You

New Fitbit Sense Features Could Surprise You

There are three new sensors that have been added to enhance the technological versatility of the smartwatch from Fitbit. The sensors that have been added include temperature, ECG, and stress. The added sensors enable the smartwatch to perform various features that would actually blow your mind.

Stress

The stress sensor examines your skin and can tell you the level of stress you are facing. The stress sensor will work on the principle of Electrodermal activity, and the sensor is actually called a galvanic skin response sensor. ECG sensor is nothing new and has already appeared in smartwatches from Apple and Samsung (Samsung Galaxy Watch 3), and the temperature sensor is akin to the Oura ring.

Temperature

As the pandemic started besetting the world, people’s demand for a temperature-sensing device increased. As a result of this, paranoia about a possible fever caused thermometers to get a lot of attention.

But what about a temperature-sensing device that you can wear all the time? Yes, a temperature sensor embedded in a watch gives us a promise that technology is here to take care of us in the face of an unprecedented health crisis.

However, an employee of Fitbit has stated that the idea behind the temperature sensing technology embedded watch originated well before the pandemic.

This technology can not only tell you if you have a fever but can also predict if you are to catch one.

The Oura ring that is priced around $300 has become a popular wearable device associated with temperature sensing technology, but the Fitbit Sense smartwatch works identically. It measures the skin temperature when you are hibernating and then delivers the result when you are awake. The result also showcases the alterations in temperatures of the two states (awake and sleep) if they are any.

The technology works on the principle of electrodermal activity. The EDA sensor will measure a small microcurrent that will flow between the device and our hand when we press our palm against the outer rim, which in itself is used to conduct the electricity.

When we are stressed, our brain recognizes it and sends signals to our glands to produce sweat. The sweat also comes from our palms. Although the quantity is minimal when compared to physical exertion, there is a small amount of moisture that alters the conductivity of the skin.

The EDA app takes the reading, processes it, and shows us the result.

The Fitbit’s app is not similar to the relax app that is found in the other gadgets. The later mentioned app uses Heart Rate Variability (HRV) to determine your well-being. The Relax app also advocates mindfulness.

Fitbit, up until now, has not made any mindfulness and features app, but it is planning to do so.

The EDA app does require an uninterrupted duration of two minutes, during which you have to press your palm against the outer rim.

Electrocardiogram

The Fitbit smartwatch has an ECG sensor that is one lead and works when you pinch your finger against the edges of your watch. It completes a circuit, and a minuscule amount of electricity passes through your body.

However, the feature has not been termed reliable by the critics similar to the case of Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. It is also awaiting a pending FDA approval, which is expected to be approved this year. It is also a very primitive mimicking of ECG machines that health professionals use, and it does not predict heart attacks.

It works in a similar way as Apple, Samsung, and Withing watches do. It examines your heart and looks for any Atrial irregularities.

Fitbit has also announced large-scale atrial fibrillation research a few months back. The feature will also not be able to detect arrhythmia.

Other features have also been included such a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracker, SpO2 oximeter, optical heart rate sensor that promises precision at the time of exertion and hibernation.

Fitbit is also working on its premium health benefits plan, which will enable the company to make better use of the data they take from the customers. Fitbit is also working on a solution that will help them detect arrhythmia, a feature that their rival Apple watch already has.

Rising Phoenix Might Cheer You Up If You are Missing the Cancelled Japan Olympics

Rising Phoenix Might Cheer You Up If You are Missing the Cancelled Japan Olympics

Rising Phoenix is a profoundly engaging documentary about Paralympics games and tells a compelling story about achievers who fought their way through their disabilities and emerged as a deserving winner on the other side.

The documentary directed by Ian Bonhote and Peter Ettedgui is an awe-inspiring spectacle that celebrates the spirit of athleticism.

The ongoing pandemic made the world come to a standstill. Though some sporting events such as UCL, NBA, UFC did return, they are being played behind closed doors, and things are not exactly the same as they were before. The ongoing crisis eliminated a major player out of the equation; audience.

Games played in an empty stadium not only deposit a heavy blow to the economy of the game but also distorts the atmosphere of the game, which is an essential part of the persona of any athletic game.

However, the documentary “Rising Phoenix” will make your time worthwhile if you choose to watch it. The documentary created by Ian Bonhote and Peter Ettedgui is very delicately made. The documentary has made an impression of an accurate depiction of suffering and perseverance and that makes it a visceral experience despite the fact that no exaggeration has been made. The athletes have lived through their suffering, rebelled against it, and at the end have achieved something remarkable.

Although the documentary is not a live game demonstration, you would experience so many different emotions that you will be compelled to feel as if you are inside the game.

The documentary features Prince William, who provides narration to the story. William who has been an advocate of Paralympics for quite some time now introduces an account of the athletes who did not treat their disabilities as a curse but instead treated it as a blessing and turned it into an asset.

The documentary also features Tatyana McFadden who competed in T54. McFadden, who is a well-built strong-minded competitor, has a condition of spina bifida but that didn’t stop her from killing it at T54.

Jean-Baptiste Alaize is a French national having his roots in Burundi (an East African country). He has competed in a sprint and long jump. Directors should receive accolades on how sensitively they touched upon his tragic story when talking about his passion for the long jump.

Every athlete is the star of the show, but Bebe Vio’s part captured a considerable amount of attention when compared to others. She is a gold medal winner from 2016 Paralympics games held at Rio de Janeiro. She suffered from a severe case of meningitis since the age of 11, but the supreme confidence and talent of the woman can be seen in the documentary.

The filmmaker duo’s approach to this documentary is akin to their approach with “McQueen” a documentary on the life of Alexander McQueen; they have used interviews as well as the footage from previous Paralympics Games to add more depth and realness to their story.

Although the filmmakers haven’t exaggerated the story, they have added some CGI to give a cinematic feel to the real-life events.

The film will move you to think deeply, but it is not a tragic story. If you are an emotional person who believes in fairy tales, then you might feel that your eyes have welled up, but it will be due to scintillating joy, not grief. It also touches upon the social message of human rights, but in its very pure form, it is just a sterling piece of art that brings forward human endeavor in its apex form.

Nolan’s “Guide” for Tenet

Nolan’s “Guide” for Tenet

This article deals with the film “Once Upon a Time in the West” and how it inspired Tenet director Christopher Nolan to shape a highly complex story.

VFX supervisor Scott Fisher has teamed  up yet again with Nolan and watched a bunch of world war 2 films to form a benchmark that he had to use in the post-production. However, reportedly it was the 1968 epic film “One Upon a Time in the West” by Sergio Leone which was the pneuma behind Tenet.

Christopher Nolan went out of his own way for his upcoming film. He usually makes his entire cast watch the list of films that are an inspiration for the project that he wishes to create. However, with Tenet, he decided against it because he wanted to make an original spy film that has stemmed from his imagination and memories, not from someone else’s work. This allowed “Once Upon a Time in the West” to impose itself on the director’s mind and ultimately become an unexpected source of inspiration.

Nolan grew up watching Hollywood blockbusters. The spy genre is one of the genres apart from the suspense that he enjoys watching as well as creating.

“Spy Films is in my bones.” He had once said.

What he really wanted was not to rehash the genre but make something that pays tribute to the genre.

In the interview with the Total Time Magazine, Nolan admits that Leone’s work not only instilled energy inside him but that Leone himself proved to be a “mentor” for him.

“I am not sure he watched a lot of westerns while he was making it,” Nolan said. Nolan expounds his opinion about the best work from one of the most influential directors of all time by saying that Leone made it from his own love for films. He then goes on to say that the love for a genre grows stronger if you live with it for years and years. What impressed Nolan the most was his passion that shaped his impression for “Once Upon a Time in the West.”

He wanted to use a similar approach for Tenet. He told his crew to use the film as an inspiration but in “a unique way”. He wanted the film “Once Upon a Time in the West” to get hold of everyone’s imagination in the team not to dictate the scenes of “Tenet” but instead to ignite the spark of creativity that would help them create the film.

However, one guy from the VFX team, the supervisor himself, Scott Fisher had to through a list of movies that Nolan had recommended to him. Nearly all of the film were related to World War 2; it is imperative to note that the films did not dictate the structure of the narrative, but instead, they were used to instill a sense of reality in his mind.

It was essential to have that sense of reality because as you can see in the trailer and in the film that objects are moving backwards in time. What Nolan aspired to do with it was relatively straight-forward; the objects that would move backwards in time must look real.

Fisher illustrated a simple concept by giving a real-life example, we as people live in a 3-dimensional world. We see 3-dimensional objects so our eyes and brain get used to the notion of how a real object should look like. When we experience objects in a film, our mind can quickly register whether a certain object is real or fake. So, to enhance the effect of the story, it is essential to recreate real-life objects in a film.

The motion of objects in time inversion, however, needed a set of skills from Fisher rather than an inspiration. Fisher and the entire VFX team do deserve some accolades because, by the looks of it, they did a very fantastic job.

Tenet will be the 10th film by the modern filmmaker Christopher Nolan who also has been regarded as one of the most influential directors of all time. Nolan does have a knack of creating high concept worlds to get blockbuster output.

The film has a very talented ensemble cast of Robert Pattinson, John David Washington, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh.

Tenet has a nationwide (except for cities like New York and Los Angeles) release date set for September the 3rd ,2020.
